Drums and Bells - wake up in old Beijing
Back in the day, Beijing had two towers to announce the time of day at two-hour increments--the drum and bell towers. These days, you can climb up the drum tower to hear old stuff in a new city.

The words are by Li Shutong (1880-1942), a late Qing buddhist monk who studied oil painting and music in Japan. The tune is adapted from “Dreaming of Home and Mother,” composed by John P. Ordway in 1868.
